Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet defended four early chances in a close final set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
