Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.
