Wimbledon Embraces Video Review System in 2025.

Wimbledon tennis court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.

Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Competitors are granted the ability to challenge specific decisions made by the official, following the system already in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This step arrives only a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which brought an end to the centuries-old tradition of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine other decisions, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.

Importantly, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a player can request.

A Recent Example

An illustrative incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the review system against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, granting the rally to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Other Changes

A further change at The Championships this year will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves instances where spectators have sometimes been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.

In other news, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
